With indicators that support it as a leading city in the reactivation of the sector, the capital of the Atlantic reaches the Anato Tourist Showcase, the most important commercial meeting in the country, where it will promote its comprehensive destination offer in front of more than 13,000 participants. national and international events.

As a prelude to the event —which takes place in Corferias Bogotá, until February 25—, President Iván Duque announced that Barranquilla rose in the ranking and is in the top 5 cities with the highest Regional Tourism Competitiveness Index in Colombia (ICTRC).

It is precisely for this reason that, in version No. 41 of the Showcase, the District will continue to promote the 'Come, Live Barranquilla' campaign, and will reaffirm its commitment to event and business tourism as one of the focuses of the tourism competitiveness model. to revive the economy.

In this year's trade show, the protagonists are the actors who have invested in the development of the territory's offer. This is how, with the support of the Mayor's Office and the Governor's Office, a group of twelve businessmen, including travel agencies, tour operators, event organizers, guides and hotels that share the stage with more than 900 exhibitors at the fair.

Taking Anato's projections into account, for this edition 150,000 business contacts will be generated, which would represent close to USD90 million per year.

"Our objective is to attract the greatest number of these businesses and important approaches for the positioning of our destination," as expressed by the head of the District Tourism Office, Kathy López.

The official explained that this agency has an agenda of more than 20 appointments at the Colombia Travel Mart business conference with international wholesale agencies, as well as entities such as IGLTA, international operators, organizers of sporting events and travel agencies, all interested in knowing the destination offer of Barranquilla in its different segments.

In turn, the Secretary of Economic Development, Ricardo Plata Sarabia, stressed that one of Barranquilla's competitive advantages is that it continues to position itself as the venue for world-class meetings of all kinds.

“From sporting events such as the qualifying matches of the National Team, the World Youth Tennis Championships and the Pan American Games to the CARICOM Ministerial Summit and, more recently, the National Equine Fair, the city continues to rebound in indicators such as national and international visitors, and We hope that this dynamic will continue with the Carnival of Barranquilla 2022”, said the official.

The secretary recalled that the capital of the Atlantic continues to position itself as a destination for international visitors: they increased from 12,320 to 17,142 (January 2019 vs. January 2022), which represents a growth of 39%

Exhibitors from the 32 departments of Colombia and more than 20 countries participate in the event, including Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Panama, Peru, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Russia and Egypt.
