For decades, the city's soccer fans gathered there to witness the best moments of the local professional soccer team, Junior, as well as the Atlántico Departmental Selection and the Colombian Selection. It was inaugurated in 1934 for the National Sports Games the following year and hosted the Central American Caribbean Games in 1946.
